What possessed an unfit middle aged woman, not known for her feats of athletic prowess, to set out to walk 150 miles?
It all started back in the year 2000, when my dear friend Marianna was dying of breast cancer and she, and all her friends and family, received such amazing support from the Macmillan nurses. And then she left this message to be read at her funeral in 2001;
which asked us all to reflect upon our lives and whether we were achieving our dreams an ambitions.
Fast forward 18 years, and I’ve been wanting to do some sort of a walk to raise money for Macmillan ever since. Then 3 close friends died in quick succession and out of the blue – which caused me to think, if not now then when?
Plus it was the 150th anniversary of the opening of All Saints, Hollybush, which is where the 150 bit comes from, and I was having a bit of a midlife crisis. So walking for 150 miles, visiting the graves of the ancestors, reminding myself of where I’d come from felt like it might give me some idea of where I was going….
Did it work? You’ll have to read the book to find out!
